This guide explains a simple, traditional Lord Shiva puja procedure for home practice. The aim is calm attention, clean intention, and disciplined devotion.

Required Items

• Shivling or image of Shiva
• Clean water and optionally milk for abhishek
• Bilva leaves, flowers, and sandal paste
• Incense, diya, and naivedya (fruit or simple offering)
• Mantra mala (optional)

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Prepare space and self with cleanliness and a quiet seat.
2. Take sankalp (resolve) for sincere worship.
3. Offer water or perform abhishek slowly with mantra japa.
4. Offer bilva leaves, flowers, and fragrant items with awareness.
5. Chant Om Namah Shivaya or Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
6. Perform aarti and conclude with pranam and gratitude.

Best Time and Duration

Early morning is generally preferred because the mind is less distracted. If morning is not practical, choose one fixed time daily. Consistency is more beneficial than occasional long sessions.

A focused 10 to 20 minute puja is sufficient for home practice when done with attention. On Mondays or Mahashivratri, you may extend the duration with additional mantra chanting.
